day one
I don't know why someone signed me up for a theobromine list. I'm unsubscribed now. Please don't do that. It is not a good time to think of things related to pet harm.

Yesterday I took Sylvia in and they put her to sleep. Long goodbyes had been made in the preceding 24 hours during our time together at my place. This is the sour flesh of life, all that is worth gnawing, but I'm not interested in sharing it here at this time.

My income tax refund is in. No flags were raised by the mini-dividend. It is good to be able to afford the name-brand macaroni and cheese if desired.

Fair bit of work for this weekend from all directtions, so I've yet to resume my customary stance of being ahead of the game. Perhaps that's over for the forseeable future.

The weather has turned balmy. I'm already losing new seedlings — tomatillos, onions — from delays in planting. Along with interest in the crops in general, but I plan to stick with it and hope for future peace with them all. Perhaps I'll get some planting done this weekend. Still hacking from the flu, don't want to relapse. Don't want to disturb the front rosebed where Sylvia so recently sharpened her claws and took care of business.

Quoting song lyrics is always a little embarrassing and inadequate, but:

Would you join a slow marching band?
and take pleasure in your leaving,
as the ferry sails and tears are dried,
and cows come home at evening.

Could you get behind a slow marching band?
Join together in the passing,
of all we shared through yesterdays,
in sorrows neverlasting.

Take a hand and take a bow.
You played for me; that's all for now.
Oh, and never mind the words, just hum along
and keep on going.

Walk on slowly — don't look behind you.
Don't say goodbye, love. I won't remind you.

Dream of me as the nights draw cold,
still marking time through Winter.
You paid the piper and called the tune,
and you marched the band away.

Take a hand and take a bow.
You played for me; that's all for now.
Oh, and never mind the words, just hum along
and keep on going.

Walk on slowly — don't look behind you.
Don't say goodbye, love. I won't remind you.
