I think a few months have slipped by since regular Usenet reading. Last night I cleaned a little house at maison du Forté and have a new list. It's not wholly psychologically satisfying because I also have all these folders from bygone days and FA, or at least my version, doesn't permit nesting. Actually...

Okay, I archived the directory and then came back and zapped. From 966 meg to 516 meg. Now I'm purified. Or am as pure as someone subscribing to alt.contraceptives can be. (I'm only in it for the patch.) My open watering holes across the plains of Usenet are as follows:

• soc.genealogy.medieval (also just archiving — much easier to consult than some web-based news interface when the time comes)

Not my most exciting mix, but the likes of ice cream and Mexican cooking and the Simpsons and Best of Usenet will no doubt return in quieter times. (Hm. I think I'll resub to alt.humor.best-of-usenet, actually.) I have Tolkien to look forward to when I finish the books. I think Mike has enough excitement over on aus.politics for the both of us. (Asylum shoppers suck. Saying you're sorry for what strangers did just because you share a similar skin colour sucks. Mandatory paid maternity leave sucks. Lonely Planet guides suck. All this and I still vote towards the left.)
