PHYS 1412: Lab 33
Doing Lab 33 on galactic collisions and looking at the Whirlpool Galaxy. Canes Venatici = Hunting Dog.

Okay, lab done. Now doing the CD exercises for next week (beats doing all the things due this week, or even tomorrow, or studying for the exam). Galaxies of Galaxies, this one is called.

Oops, decided not to take notes because I'm reading the pages aloud and practicing my public speaking skills for SPCH 1311 this summer.

The Cartwheel Galaxy is still my favourite for now.

Conclusion for Lab 33
"Galaxy collisions can be anything from direct and head-on to close enough that gravity only has a relatively small effect on the shapes of the galaxies. The collision area between two colliding galaxies is more dense with gas and dust and thus conducive to the production of new stars. To confirm whether galaxies are really interacting and not just an optical illusion, we can note whether their shapes are affected and whether there is an increase of gas/dust where the collision is taking place. Irregular galaxies are the galaxy type related to galactic interactions."
