PHYS 1412: New grades
103 on the third exam? Wow!-how?

Okay, I got two 2.5 questions wrong for a minus 5, but since the exam was apparently worth 108 I received a 103 and not a 95. You have to love Professor X's bonus system. Even though it means I should probably have a couple of Bs over the last two semesters where I've had As, I'll just chalk the extra up to having the spirit of the A in this class, even if not always the letter.

So, the Andromeda Galaxy is 2.5 million ly away and not 93 million. I won't say I knew that, but I knew it wasn't 93. (And to think I'd written '3' then added a '9' because as good as 3 sounded, I knew something was 93, although I don't know what. No fundamental sense of scale, obviously. I'm better now, I swear.)

And I answered period-luminosity relation for determining the distance to Cepheid variables when for nearby ones we use main-sequence fitting. Something I'm still not entirely clear on. (I thought it was for stars too distant for parallax but not Cepheids.)

This is a good class. I learn things and am rewarded for doing so.
