I'll now be attempting to Get Over Ittm with a little lesson of the list of seven, as popularized by my favourite Star Trek character with the last name of Crusher, Mr. Wil Wheaton. (Who has also seen the need to use it today.)

  1. Studying PHP/MySQL has been going very well. When I hit a snag, it's because I've misread a sentence or skipped something important, not because the words are sliding off my brain. Since I'm not in a position where I have to expand my web skills in this direction, this is a really nice bonus. But even though I may never or seldom use this information, I'm enjoying learning and feel good about how easy it is. I have lots of ideas, and that's a nice feeling too. I immediately then worry about finding the time to explore these ideas, but I need to remember that I'm the one pressuring myself to not rest on my laurels. It's up to me to back off.
  2. This is where I'd put an entry about my 'secret life' that is no longer very secret. Except I miss it being a secret, and there are a few important people who've not had a chance to be made privy yet, so let's have a little fun remaining secretive while we can. (Just don't get the idea that it's interesting or anything.) Suffice to say my other life is going very well. It has been a little subpar for the past few weeks, but if I can just relax and blow off the people who've let me down I think I can get to a happy spot there again.
  3. Obviously there's the matter of my grandfather. I'm really lucky to have all four grandparents, and especially lucky to have these four grandparents. Plus they all have internet access. I'm so glad Popo is beating the odds — on an Olympic level. I'm going to save the message Dad left on my answering machine today.
  4. Mike is simply the best for being opinionated and understanding my own opinions and passions. We both can bitch about anything, but Mike is deep enough to get the whole picture. He sees that the praise and wonder far outweigh the negativity, which is just an erroneous impression some may get when they're distracted by an opposing voice. Today I woke up to four emails from him on various world issues we find frustrating. I thought this was great.
  5. I watched the pilot for Star Trek: Voyager and I think I could really like this show, especially the Doctor. It's not TNG, at least not yet, but it's good to have another massive body of work to escape into when the Seinfeld, TNG, Simpsons, and Buffy collections run out. (Okay, I'm still not sure about Buffy, but it's been more entertaining than expected.)
  6. In all this I've not broken my resolves regarding sulk foods. No dairy, no chocolate. Mind you, there was an Amy's no-cheese pizza earlier and two pints of Soy Delicious sit in the freezer and I can almost guarantee one will be liberated soon. But in the past 7+ weeks I have yet to meet, let alone exceed, my caloric requirements for the day. I know that's only a third of the battle for excellent health, the rest being the dreaded exercise, but every day I meet my stress with a response other than 'screw it, all bets are off, medicate now!' is a good day. Projects and people will come and go, prattling on about Michelangelo, but this body is the one thing sticking around until the end.
  7. I'm grateful for the insanely fast download of an excellent quality mp3 of Love Comes Quickly. (Disclaimerville: which I own on vinyl.) Sooner or later, sooner or later, this happens to everyone... To everyone.
