tea with aunt euphrosyne
My day, today:

  • Slept through storm, waking periodically to think smug happy thoughts about the loveliness of storms. Worried a bit about cats.
  • Woke to find some of the electronics affected by the power outages, but not the clocks.
  • Work and whatnot, all day, which of course is never detailed here although I should CMA and say if I was terse with a dear coworker it was only because I was madly rushing on some things, and was nothing to do with them. (Say it once, say it again, let's embrace a neutral gender in 'them.')
  • Dad called from the hospital parking lot to say that Popo had been moved from ICU to a private room. Whether this was a good move is still somewhat unclear. (There seems to be some confusion over whether he was at the best point for the move, or whether someone else just needed the bed more.)
  • I didn't go see Panic Room, although I thought about it.
  • Prudence showed up for breakfast, putting to rest my guilt over how she did in the storm.
  • Phros was her old cuddly self with me again. I'm going to suggest to Mom that Phros needs interaction more than she needs facilitation.
  • I tried to get Prudence to go sprinkling wildflower seeds with me, but she was tired of the mud.
  • Phros of course doesn't go into mud, or do yardwork, or do the yard if she can help it.
  • I sprinkled the seeds anyway, somewhere very secret, don't tell. Lady Bird knew what she was doing.
  • Picked up Mom's keys later in the afternoon and did the mail run. Culled and sorted very nicely. I've always wanted to be a postal employee.
  • Some would say I already am.
  • Burying my shame deep in this list, today I displaced an enormous black hornet-wasp-thingie. He or she started building a home over my main door the other day, and that just won't do. I could hack it, but from experience I know that hornet-wasp-thingies get very angry when you're always opening the door by their house. Like those people who build their homes near the train tracks then write angry letters about the train whistle being too loud. (ahem.) So while it was away I knocked it down. And felt bad. But what can you do? Then later when I got in the car the thing came back and was so incredulous; it just kept flying around where the nest was supposed to be and was, like, 'what the hell'. I know what it was thinking. 'People suck.'
  • And while I watched all this I counted eleven thin white caterpillars climbing upwards at various points on the side of the house. Now that is creepy.
  • Don't wasps make their nests from caterpillars?
  • Speaking of which, the little white fuzzy cobwebby pod things that grow in doorways sometimes have put in an appearance this year. What are they? I'll take a picture soon.
  • List-making halted to check out planetary alignment.
  • I would hardly call half a sky between Jupiter and Venus anything interesting. I didn't see the others.
  • Used the three minute conditioner by Infusium-23 and my hair is no better off. How is it this brand was so spectacular the first time I used it, but has been the same story ever since, even with breaks? I want this to be the year I get my hair worked out, and have already cut it twice (last time a week or so ago), but I need some reassurance it's even possible.
  • Still haven't dropped off Blizzard Beach photos. Doing so might be a good excuse for picking up another one of those delicious Amy's (no cheese) pizzas with roasted vegetables...
  • Dropped off my collection of Popular Science for the magazine drive and do not get me started on certain people who should know better picking through all of the magazines for stuff they like.
  • Did not get the car inspected. Very sorry in advance, officer.
  • I have an alibi for between 4:45 and 5:15 pm, if it matters.
  • Which is 3:45 / 4:15 pm in my world, by the way. That time of year again. See you all in October.
