bursting hubble's bubble
I had no idea that the Hubble telescope was suffering from "premature obsolescence" and is trying to conk out on us in a couple of years. Columbia was the only shuttle that could service the Hubble.
But... I guess I never realized that the Hubble was only supposed to work until 2010 in the first place. Stupid gyroscopes. I just had this vague notion that the James Webber was supposed to add to it, not eventually replace it.
C'mon, though, look how above and beyond Galileo went. I don't mean to take the Hubble for granted, but it's always running around and finding new burping galaxies or planets every day; it can't go away. We already lost our dear hamster Edwin - it would hardly be fair for the Hubble to leave too.
