make me sweet little pies
Mike is faced with the possibility of going to see Fleetwood Mac. It was different in my day: I came of allowed-to-go-to-concerts age during that hole when Lindsey Buckingham was absent from the group. It's a great consolation that I got to see LB in a very small club in Austin when he did his solo tour, even if someone did steal my souvenir t-shirt with the bucking-pig label of the Buckingham family's yesterfortunes before I ever had a chance to wear it.

Mike, on the other hand, must come to terms with the absence of Christine McVie. “Why did she leave?" he asked. “Well, I'm not up on this kind of thing anymore, but I think she divorced then wanted to return to England to finally get some relaxation after thirty years with the band, something like that.”

And that led to more questions, and eventually I set Mike straight that, no, this was another husband, that she and John McVie had divorced around 1977, and yadda yadda yadda, back when Lindsey and Stevie broke up and yadda yadda yadda, from that came Rumours and, well, you know...

"Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks were a couple?!"

Wow.

And so, for the next six-to-eight minutes, I got to share a mighty young adulthood's worth of fan knowledge about FM and all its members. Knowledge long since wedged into a cardboard U-Haul box and stored between the Pier 1 chiffon & rayon skirts and the Erté tarot cards. It was my moment to shine. I never realized he didn't know, and I never knew I'd need to know. Perhaps in time we discover that no acquisition of trivia is trivial.

I definitely picked the right man. Six years and counting and he's not only full of surprises but he keeps me surprising myself.
