Joule
10 February 2003 - 1 September 2004
died of old age
went to Valhamma anyway
Joule passed away in my hand this morning; Mike's good-bye was the last sound to caress her ear. She was very good hamster, and I am a very bad poet, but I doodled some doggerel almost a year ago when we were more ignorant of the ways of determined hams. (After the surgery, before the inoperable tumours, during the respiratory infection.) So, I'll share it all the same, because it is hers, and because we love our small hampire.
Joule
Ambrosia's remaining beauty stretches
Dreams, lightly now, of Hazelnuts, by Jove
In a burrow of ginger butterflies
Brian and Erik and Edwin cheer, cheer
Welcoming, sister, to races plenty
And kisses pinky and feathery sand
Scurries and the seeds, sunflower hurries,
Run, kilojoule, run run jump so gently
Hownow, Isaac's blessing, waking anon
One wish granted -- oh oh -- our blue fawn gone.
