Sometime around midnight I finished Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Ooph! Sometime around noon, Mike got a spoiler-like piece of information from some lamer on IRC that is going to make everything uncomfortable until Mike actually finishes the book. I told him. I said we had to go into media blackout until we finished reading.
Needless to say, I'm disgruntled. Now he knows something, or thinks he knows something, or knows of something that is going to distract him until it is resolved, and he will read the book differently as a result. I HATE SPOILERS! When I was teaching the sci-fi unit last year, I wouldn't even mention the X-Files, even though it really needed to be put on the list of important modern SF developments (remember the pre-Mulder days when most people had never heard of Roswell?), all because I hadn't finished watching season 9 (geez, it was boring) on DVD and I didn't want some helpful kid to give away the series finale (also, ultimately, boring).
So, hating spoilers and such, I can't really post a reaction to the latest book. I could say "WARNING WARNING" and leave spoiler space, but I'm afraid Mike would keep reading anyway. You know how he can be. All I will say is... Wow.
Mike isn't getting his reading done as quickly as I'd like because he keeps getting distracted by my latest photo of Helix.
This is my first post since moving to TypePad. I apologize to the few of you whose comments were obliterated in the move (about five, I think) because I didn't re-import after mapping the domain. I don't know if I'll stay here. It's hard for me to get used to the idea of paying for webspace - and at this time there is no need to: the company that bought our company continues to honour the agreement, after all - but I also feel the need for more control. On the other hand, I've just decided that my genealogy site might work better as a wiki, so maybe now is not the time to give up CGI.
Yawn. Okay, got to move around. Sitting around and scarfing Oreos while inhaling 650+ pages of wonderful makes for a rumbly tummy.
