Won, Winning, and Whinging

So, I was making all of those digital scrapbook layouts anyway, so I entered them in another contest, a raffle-style one with one "ticket" being granted per LO. Today I found out that I won - whee! (The prize is a $10 gift certificate to Club Scrap. Nice.)

I haven't done any other scrapbooking because I haven't printed photos yet. Last week I didn't even do a single layout. (Our team came in third place. Brown won again. Everyone must be sick of us, going Orange, Brown, Orange, Brown...) This week I'll consider stepping up my game, as the challenge is just to use materials from three different kits.

Remember the little secret the other day? GREEN LIGHT! But, I have to wait a couple of days until... something... before I can spill the beans. And remember, it's just a tiny fragment of a pinto, like something you'd absentmindedly scrape out from under your fingernail.

The kids worked well in the lab today. I posted a sort of scavenger hunt (their term) of signs that begins with "WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO BE DOING???" This prevents a jillion people coming up and saying, "What poems?" and me summoning a sarcastic mist and replying, "Uh, the ones you've been writing all quarter? The ones you work on when I say, 'Use the remaining time to work on your poems'? The ones I said would be due at the end of the quarter as part of the big Research Chapbook project, and then everyone would get mad that they weren't due right now so why were we wasting our time with learning them?"

The kids who are flummoxed by the official handout instead follow the signs ("Have you found 10 facts about {topic} from the approved websites?"), perform the task described, and tell me I've tricked them into reading. I ask if they'd rather just have a novel, and they back away saying nonono and that I'm their favourite teacher, did I know that miss? LOL. Then they finish that bite-size instruction and return to the sign, say yes, and find the next sign.

Yes, I have found a way to make bullet lists easier to read. Is there anything else you'd like me to put in this spoon I'm holding?
