The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District has a terrific system where you can go online and ask for copies of books at Branch A to be sent to Branch B. Or Branch Z.
So, if the book I want is in Boulder City, I can just click-click-click and - assuming it's available - it will land at my local branch (Spring Valley) within a couple of days. I get an email asking me to pick it up sometime in the next week, and all is grand.
Usually it takes more than a few days to get the notice because the books are checked out. So, I've become used to simply requesting everything I want then gathering the bounty at a reasonable, staggered pace.
Today a co-worker came in and insisted that I take her copy of Emile Zola's The Kill and read it. Sock-knocking was guaranteed. I thought, well, I'm almost done with Palin, and I don't know if I'll like the paperbacks I picked up the other day, so sure, okay.
Then all of my library requests, save two, came in. Now that's a thunk to knock your socks off.
And I probably shouldn't mention that, just for guilty fun, I've finally been enjoying a re-read of The Bell Jar. During my prep. I keep telling you guys - I am a naughty teacher.
