Happy Patch Day!

If you don't play World of Warcraft, this means nothing to you. But - Happy Patch Day anyway. I think cupcakes are in order. Let's say, something with pink frosting to represent the joy of earning the "Plethora of Pets" achievement. (My warlock is making Tranquil Mechanical Yetis now.)

C'mon. Don't you wish you played this game?

While killing time between flights, I am grading papers. ... Ha ha ha. Had you there. No, I'm reading Dan Brown's Angels and Demons. I know, I know, but it's a fun little adventure so far. (I'm only a fourth of the way in, but I must know: this thing with Robert Langdon running around Europe with the grand/daughter of a murdered man... does it happen in all of Brown's books?)

All of the hamsters seem well tonight. Arthur just finished his round of antibiotics. His eye is still a little gimpy, but it's much better than the swelling he had going on last week. We also have some critter-safe topical Neosporin to try. What's sad is that Arthur is quite old now, and he won't be with us long enough to ever have a third round of antibiotics. I mean, I hope he doesn't need them, but he does love them so. We only have a tiny amount of Baytril left, so if there's fair warning when Arthur is leaving, we're planning on letting him have those dregs. He loves his 'nana drops that much.

The hams are very excited about all of the sentence diagramming the kids will learn tomorrow. Oops, today. This probably also calls for cupcakes. It's a good thing I have two cupcake books on reserve at the library, and that this week's casino gift is a silicone baking tray, and that I just ordered six heart-shaped silicone cupcake cups from a school fundraiser. Oh yes, I do feel a phase coming on...

Mike got one of his Aussie care packages last week. (We were out of Schweppes' lime cordial. It's like Rose's lime stuff, but made with sugar, which makes all of the difference.) I'd link to where he gets his stuff but, um, I haven't been paying attention. It's some place (in California?) where they have a bunch of about-to-expire goods marked down for cheap-cheap. Anyway, one thing he got was Solo. YUM! Concentrated lemony fizz, but not too sweet. Thumbs-up!

(According to Angels and Demons, the thumbs-up sign is an ancient gesture of "ready to go" masculine virility. I make this sign during class a lot, because I'm cheerful and exhausting like that. Needless to say, it was a self-conscious day yesterday.)

I feel like I talk about beverages all the time. I was in Fresh & Easy the other day (as always) on the way home from work, gulping down the juice they had out for sampling. A line popped into my head. If I ever decide to write my Las Vegas memoirs in a sort of hardboiled noir manner with a hint of pretension, they'll open like this: "We were always thirsty in that town." Because, damn, it's true. I think 70% of our entertainment is based around where the next smoothie is coming from. It really is a desert out here.
