This miserable comment on MeFi led me, quite against the author's desires, to a fun page where you can quickly make your own Fake HDR photos. There's probably a Photoshop plugin that does it just as snappily, but I haven't looked.
I used this photo, taken in 2006 and uploaded before I became seduced by overediting:
I know I could improve this one now, without resorting to drastic fancies.
Or, since I'm usually too lazy to upload new photos, let alone pretty up old ones, I could just zap it with the web app and...
This second one can be enlarged with a click.
This app is definitely fun, but perhaps I should learn how to get this kind of saturation in the original exposure. (Yes, I know HDR uses at least three exposures, but until I get a great sweeping shot, I'm content to just learn "fake HDR," aka more lively - if slightly unrealistic - saturation and contrast.)
Or I could eat another coconut cream truffle and wonder who is doing all the grading tonight. Is it me? When will I learn to stop assigning stuff? Until then, maybe I should just enjoy this free site and not kick myself for not knowing everything yet. Yeah! And oh, hey, hazelnut cream truffle! (I love clearance candy.)
(P.S. Does anyone else hate TypePad's new file naming system?)

mmmmm truffles.....
